First blog post
I felt extremely inspired by this post, and decided to actually make a blog. Before the pandemic started I was pretty active on Facebook, but as time passed I realized more and more how big social media platforms negatively affected my mental health.
Deactivating my personal facebook account was one of the best decisions regarding my online presence that I have ever made. This decision, however, had a significant downside- I felt like I had nowhere and noone to share my thoughts with. I hope that writing here can help me challenge those feelings and connect with others on a level that is simply impossible when interactions are mediated by an algorithm.
I am interested in interactions between people and between ideas, not between "profiles" or online personas that have everything to do with getting "virality" or "reach", and nothing with our personhood.
That is one of the reasons I quite like the Fediverse, but at the same time, I have difficulty with adapting to it as well. Everything is happening quickly, and I still have this fear of being lost in the feed somewhere, unnoticed with my need for contact. I am also afraid that I won't notice someone else's similar need, or that I will be unable to react appropriately.
Hopefully this mode of communication - blogging - will be a good fit for me. I am excited to start this experiment.
