Pillowfort is going down
Pillowfort is (was) a nice indie social media platform, but it is unfortunately closing in december.
There is an archival initiative going on, to preserve the public posts before they all become lost:
https://www.pillowfort.social/posts/8417608 As the organizer syas: "The following goals to be submitted for discussion:
Inform as many folks as possible of the upcoming closure, as well as the archival initiative
Inform as many folks as possible of the available archival tools, specifically the Tassel archival tool
Archive public posts and comments on Pillowfort, AKA those that are accessible with a logged-out user. Ideally the archive would be independent from existing services like Internet Archive, and go easy on requests and data download to prevent service-denial.
Consensually obtain login-restricted posts and comments and other data from rightful authors for public archival, through a centralized effort
As a stretch goal: Brainstorm ideas for a replacement service, either programmed from scratch or based on existing software
As well as any other community tasks related to the closure."
The initiative welcomes everyone who would want to help with archival, regardless if they were on pf or not.
Organizing is happening on discord for now, but other options are being considered.

While I was not very active on pillowfort, I still always appreciated its existence as an alternative both to big corpo platforms, such as Tumblr, and as an alternative for other indie networks such as, for example, the various fediverse platforms. No size fits all, variety is good. So it is always sad news to hear another one go. I hope that the archival efforts go well, and that soon more platforms spring up.
